2016 BUILDING & DECORATING TRENDS

One trend that is consistently evolving and making the list of top building trends is modern eco friendly homes. As more people are becoming aware of our environment, the more we are seeing builders and homebuyers build homes that have a more modern feel and is eco friendly in many ways.

In a lot of kitchens we are starting to see two-toned cabinets. I’ve seen this done in so many variations: with the top cabinets white, and lower cabinets a lighter tan, deeper wood tones, or even shiny black. It really adds some depth to the kitchen then add some vintage rod iron lighting, you’ll find every excuse possible to spend even more time in your beautiful kitchen.

Living in Utah, have you thought about Heated Entryway Floors? Many people use this in their bathrooms and are now having it installed with their tile for their entryway. In Utah, where spring, fall and winter can really bring any type of weather, it might be a nice addition so boots and the floors dry up a lot faster.

Have you seen the customized island bar in the kitchen that runs longer than usual and turns into a little kitchen table on the opposite side? They are adorable! Not to mention, how great they would be for the smaller homes that don’t really have a dining room. Or if you prefer a more comfortable place to sit, then a high countertop and stool.

Don’t have a heart attack when I mention this but a home trend that is starting to catch on is a living room with…. no technology. There’s truly something to be said about going back to basics and have a sitting room where you actually sit with your loved ones and have a conversation or cozy up by yourself and read a book. Not only is this building trend catching on, but it’s a healthy lifestyle change to start in your home.

One of my favorite building trends in 2016 is making the patio look as if it is apart of the house. Decorate your patio with comfortable furniture and throw in some fun colors with pillows or blankets. Add a large stone fireplace off against one wall and even a little bar and fridge. It will be a great place to entertain company! And if the weather gets bad, there are many types of doors/walls people are using now to close it off to the house.

The sky really is the limit when it comes to building and decorating. Each person has their own style, and something that a lot of people love, you might dislike. Thank goodness for Pinterest and the never-ending ideas! If you ever need a little inspiration, jump on there for a little bit, your mind will start racing with ideas and who knows, maybe you’ll be ahead of the game for the 2017 trends.
